Steam in the South

Penn Valley Pictures is proud to announce another new release. "Steam in the South". This all color video takes you back to the last steam operations in the south. You will see the Virginia Blue Ridge railroad's steam powered freight trains in both summer and winter. Then we watch the E.J. Lavino company shuttle cars around their Lynchburg, VA area steel mill with small steam tank locomotives. Next, we visit the just opened three foot guage Tweetsie Railroad near Blowing Rock, NC. Here we see ex-WP&Y Mikado 190 working the new tourist line hauling trains over trestles and through a deep cut. Then, it is on to the Stone Mountain Railroad in GA. Watch Stone Mountain's beautiful pair of 4-4-0 American type locomotives operate push-pull around the uncompleted Stone Mountain loop during the tourist railroad's early days. Moving on, you will see the newly completed Rebel Railroad at Pigeon Forge, TN. Also using ex-WP&Y Mikados, you will see the Rebel Railroad operations in the park's early days. We then visit the standard guage operations of the East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad. Famous in the 1960's for their immaculate 2-8-0's, you will see freight operations on this beautiful short line. Finally, we visit the last great steam railroad show of the South, the Buffalo Creek & Gauley in rural Clay County, WV. Some of the best historic scenes ever filmed show this rural coal hauler in its last days. State of the art technology was used to provide clear, sharp images for your viewing pleasure. Narration, sound and music added to bring you 45 minutes of outstanding historical railroad video entertainment. We know you will enjoy Steam In the South.
